I unfortunately am learning of Joe’s passing months later. I loved working for him at the bait and tackle store and delivering ice. I had some great summers as a teen and a lot of them were there at Julian’s ice. He was one of the people pushing me to better myself each and everyday. My condolences to his family.

Joe was an originol, he and a handful of others really gave us Speed Skiffs as we know them. The Joe I knew was tough as nails but always fun to talk with and had such great stories. I am sonsorry to hear of his passing.

Thanks for posting pictures! Joey was my cousin. I live in Va. whenever we got back home, we would visit the shop. He even had me working the cash register a few times. Lol.

We were saddened to heat that Uncle Joey has moved on to other-worldly fishing grounds. As kids, before he had kids of his own, Uncle Joey would take us to the state fair so that I could hear Gene Autry sing. On Easter, the baskets were bigger than we were. We frequently would watch him race his Jersey Speed Skiff "JS-6" when the races were in Atlantic Highlands and Red Bank.
My college summer job was working at Julian's Bait & Tackle, where I learned to tie hooks and make rigs, among other things. What a great experience! Joe was also had great artistic talent, overcoming difficulties with having one eye. He painted famous people, like Frank Sinatra (one of his favorites), and many local landmarks. He definitely left his mark on the world.... may he rest in peace. - LuAnn
