Sam Posten , may you RIP.
I am glad that I had the opportunity to meet and work alongside side him at the Navesink Hook and Ladder Company # 1. Sam had a lot of energy, most of it positive.
He took enormous pride in running the James Abbes memorial scholarship, the difficult part was working with the committee selecting the scholarship winners , the easy part was providing the annual dinner, mostly consisting of baby back ribs, beans and salads.
Many years back, at the January MTFD meeting being held at Navesink Firehouse, Sam presiding over the departments secretarial duties, was having difficulty with his hearing aids. He tried adjusting them to no avail, at that point he removed them from his ears and threw them against the wall where they exploded. Similar to a cracker ball. He then shouted “ they will have to fix them now! “.
Mark Fisher and myself nearly fell over laughing out loud.
Sam did a lot for the Fire Company , held many positions, and led the MTFD annual memorial services.
He will be sorely missed.
May God Bless his soul and his family

My brother in law was a very colorful man..
I loved him very much mainly because
he was wonderful to my children.
He also enjoyed embarrassing all of us from time to time.
Upon one of his visits to Florida, he decided to stay at home while the rest of us went on an outing.
While we were gone he took a nap in our pool on a float. (Naked).
When we returned he had burned his ass and could not sit down for the rest of his stay.
RIP Sam. There was never a dull moment.❤️

This is very sad news, Sam and I along, with Ray Sickles, Oscar Stewart, and Jack Steelman, there were a couple of others, the names escape me at the moment, we were all in the Cub Scouts together. Sam's Mom was the leader of our pack, a truly lovely lady.
From time to time Sam and I would run into each other, always a very friendly encounter. Over the years all of our family passed through Posten's Funeral Home, when it was time for my Mom and Dad he handled all the arrangements, we were left with the feeling that it was being handled by a close friend. I'm confident he will be missed by many.

Sam Posten will be dearly missed. Meetings at the Firehouse could never be the same. He always made sure he said hello to me when he seen me. I have many memories of him but 3 that stand out in my mind are cooking hot dogs at the fair, How great he pitched at our softball game at the Fair workers Picnic. And the most current which was at the December Meeting he commented on who decorated the Christmas tree it never looked so good. And the room shouted Mario did it, and that made me feel so good. Thank you for the memories Sam and Rest in peace.
