One of my most respected and cherished mentors. I was a student of Walters back at Thompson JHS in 1974. He taught me so many technical things including wood and metal working. I vividly remember making a wood shelf out of hand tools and filing the front brace for smoothness. I would bring it to Walter and he would send me back to the bench to continue smoothing it out until it was perfect…but what he taught me most was respect and responsibility. I recall getting a bit liberal with my mouth in his class but he set me straight by twisting my ear lobe - I never did that again and try doing that today with the present day young kids. I have so many other great memories of this great man whom I will miss. P.S I’m now retired as an IT engineer of over 40 years and partially because of Walters meticulous mentorship as a teacher - my hands-down favorite and most influential teacher.

Every once in awhile a man or woman comes along and you think, he or she seems nice.
Well I met a man many years ago named Walter. He was very kind, smart, sturn, but most of all a lover of people. All kinds, no matter what your background is or was. He was ready to help and make since of things.
He will be missed by too many!
For the Atlantic Highlands FA, he was the guiding light!
