So sorry to hear of Bernie's passing. He truly was a stand up guy and loved by many. He was always there for everyone whether rich or poor, it didnt matter. That is the type of man he was, a true gentleman. My heart goes out to Kathleen and the family. May you find peace and comfort in knowing how many lives he touched and how loved and respected by all who knew him. Rest in Peace Bernie. You are in Gods house now and I'm sure he welcomed you with a beautiful reception fit for a king.

My sympathy to Kathleen and family of Bernie, a good man with a huge heart for his community. He always figured out a way for you to have your special occasion at Shore Casino. He ;put up with our rowdy crowd when we walked in the door after our time on the boats and drinking, he would shake his head with a big smile. He took care of us as if we were family too. He will always be remembered with love. May memories comfort you all. Love Pat Sheehan Belfast Me

Dearest Kathleen and family,
We are so sorry for you to learn of Mr. Sweeney's passing, but we are just as sorry for ourselves. We always looked forward to seeing the gentleman, Mr. Sweeney, his smile (reflected in the patent leathers), his irascible charm, and a good word for my husband and a Jersey City memory for me. Mr. Sweeney and my husband had a respect for each other in business, but he was otherwise kind and generous; Giants tickets? Rangers? A boat? For me, he enjoyed regaling me with stories of my own dear old Dad's football greatness while they were contemporaries in Jersey City rival high schools. My mom, a Marist Mother from the 70s, has great memories of Mr. Sweeney and The Casino in the Park, and also sends her sincere sympathies (and had great memories as well!). When I think back at how generous Mr. S. was with the community, my dad, Ted Lukachyk and Sandy Hook LL, the schools, and anyone who needed anything, I can only hope that he knew how much he was loved and appreciated. He will be missed.
With sympathy, Donald and Barbara Hauser (nee, Lukachyk)

Words cannot express our feelings for Bernie. We 1st met at the Casino in the Park in Oct 1966 for a rehearsal dinner. He was friends with my Father and then I attended regular meetings of the Jaycees. We had a boat at the Marina in Atlantic Highlands, when Bernie took over a small stand and built the Shore Casino. We had many parties, weddings and celebrations there over the years. I will always think of him sitting at the bar late at night, we would stop by and share a story or two. Memories are the greatest things and Thank You Bernie for being a part of ours. Thank you, Kathleen and family for allowing him to share so many lives.
